Melissa Braithwaite

Adult Ballet Tutor

Melissa trained pre-vocationally at Centre Pointe in Manchester as well as being an associate of the Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds for 10 years. At age 18 she moved to London to begin her professional training at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

After graduating with a First Class honours degree, Melissa joined the Richard Alston Dance Company and toured internationally for their 2018 – 2019 season, whilst also completing her MA alongside.

Melissa then started teaching weekly adult ballet classes at the Rambert School whilst working with newly formed company, BalletFolk, where they made their debut at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 2019.

She also performed with BalletFolk at CounterPointe in Brooklyn, New York in 2020 before moving back to her home town in Dronfield later that year.

Melissa has continued teaching regular ballet classes on a freelance basis and is excited to have joined Hype Dance Company! She is available to teach private classes here at Hype Dance.

I am so lucky that I can share my love for ballet and dance with a group of like minded people who are always willing to jump straight into the deep end with anything I throw at them in class! Ballet isn’t easy, and I’m always so impressed with everyone’s energy and commitment to classes at Hype!
