Dance for schools and colleges, and teacher CPD
Get young people moving, learning and creating with dance. From after-school clubs and curriculum workshops to training your teachers, our experienced dance artists bring energy, creativity and over 20 years’ experience into primary schools, secondary schools and colleges, with every session tailored to the age group and your curriculum.
After-school clubs
Weekly clubs in street dance, breakdance, contemporary, ballet, or simply getting children active, engaged and having fun. Clubs usually last an hour, but we can adapt to suit your school. We can also run taster clubs that try a different style each week, so children can discover what they love.
Dance across the curriculum
Dance can bring almost any topic to life, from planets and the seasons to how things grow. It’s ideal for kinaesthetic learners, and builds collaboration, creativity and problem-solving along the way.
Workshops and projects
One-off workshops exploring a theme, perfect for a topic day or to spark creativity. Past workshops include Ancient Egypt, rivers, birds, the Great Fire of London, superheroes, maths in action, and paintings as a stimulus. We can also run a series of sessions working towards a goal, such as a performance or show.
Hype are an outstanding, cutting-edge company with tutors of the highest standard. My students absolutely loved the sessions and plead for more! Hype rock!
CPD for teachers
Our CPD gives teachers the confidence and tools to lead dance sessions themselves, even with no dance background. We cover the fundamentals of choreography and practical ways to help students turn a theme into dance, giving them a creative outlet and a real sense of ownership of the work.
We’ve worked with schools in Rotherham for several years, delivering teacher CPD (including a CPD day for primary teachers creating work for the Rotherham School Games), dance workshops, and choreography for the Children’s Capital of Culture Movement Festival. We’ve also worked with students at Thomas Rotherham College.
A successful day, and the primary teachers got a lot out of it! Thanks again for putting on a great day.
You can also have a member of staff join us alongside a project for hands-on training, so they can carry the work on in school afterwards.
Funding
Dance clubs, workshops and CPD can all be funded through your PE and School Sport Premium.
Our dance artists
All our dance artists are experienced, hold qualifications from Ofqual-recognised bodies, have enhanced DBS checks, are insured and first-aid trained, and receive regular training from Hype’s management team.
CPD for dance artists
We also share what we’ve learned from our research and dance theatre projects with other dance artists, including approaches to dance for people living with dementia (from Mode:Default), movement and care (from Handle Me With Care), and choreographic approaches with young people (from Beautifully Savaged 2).
