We are running a five week Beginner Contemporary Dance intro here at our dance studios in Sheffield.

This is a five week beginner course covering some essentials of contemporary dance technique. It’s suitable for complete beginners to the style, anyone who’s always wanted to try contemporary dance and wants to know more, and for those who already know the style but want to refresh their technique. The course will allow students the time to focus on mastering the technique, with suitable guidance and support.

At the end of the course you’ll be able to perform a short piece of choreography using the techniques and skills that you’ll have learnt.

Alongside learning Contemporary Dance technique suitable for beginners, you will also have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Taking a dance class will also improve your fitness, conditioning, flexibility, strength, balance, posture, memory, co-ordination, mental wellbeing and more..!

The course will be taught by one of Hype Dance’s experienced professionals, Lauren Aizlewood-Clow, with her fun and engaging approach. We’re positive that you will enjoy the sessions, and will definitely learn something new!

The full course costs £27.50 (just £5.50 per class) and must be booked and paid for in advance and is suitable for ages 16 upwards, of any experience. If you are unable to make all of the sessions you can book onto an individual class by following this link.

You do not need any previous dance experience to take part in this beginner contemporary dance course.

Other Contemporary Dance classes

We also run improver, intermediate & advanced level drop-in contemporary dance classes. These drop-in classes are on Mondays & Wednesdays, and cost £6.50 / £5.53 NUS.

These classes must be booked online, in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear for class / should I bring anything with me?

We don’t have a dress code for our adult classes so you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. For contemporary dance, most people wear leggings / joggers or shorts and a vest top or tee. For your feet, bare foot will be fine.

We suggest bringing a water bottle along to class – you can refill it here too.

Is there anywhere to park / how do I get there?

What do I do when I get there?

When you arrive press the buzzer (to the left of the black doors) and let us know what you are here for. Push the door when you hear the buzzing sound, then head inside and up to reception, which is on the left at the top on the stairs.

If you need to change clothes, please use the designated changing space (just through the waiting area). Please bring CLEAN footwear for the studio, especially during autumn / winter when it is often muddy outside.

Once you are ready, take a seat in the waiting area until your dance tutor comes to get you for your class. Please take your belongings with you into the studio, where there are hooks to hang bags and coats on.

Can I change my booking or get a refund?

Yes, you can amend your booking up to 2 hours in advance of the class by heading to our customer portal. If you haven’t used the portal before, simply click on the “forgot password” link, enter the email address you used to book, and follow the instructions.

We don’t offer refunds on dance classes (other than in exceptional circumstances), as you’ll already have seen on our terms and conditions! We’re happy for you to reschedule your booking as outlined above though.

Hi Du. If you want to join the current course that started last week, get in touch using the contact form on this website and we can get you booked on to start this Monday. If you want to join in the new year, booking opens on Monday 20th November. I hope that helps!
