Terms and conditions

These terms apply when you book a class, course, workshop, event, private lesson, dance party or studio hire with Hype Dance Company (“Hype”, “we”, “us”), company number 05281103. Registered in England and Wales at 60 Upper Allen St, Sheffield S3 7GL. By booking, you agree to these terms.

1. Booking and payment

  • All classes, courses, workshops, events and studio hires must be booked and paid for in advance, online or as agreed with us.

  • Places are confirmed once payment has been received. If a class is full and you haven’t booked, you may not be able to take part.

  • Prices are shown on our website and may change from time to time. Changes won’t affect bookings you’ve already paid for.

  • Discount codes and offers (including student discounts) can’t be combined unless we say so, have no cash value, and may be withdrawn at any time.

2. Changes, cancellations and refunds

  • Classes: you can change a class booking up to 3 hours before it starts through our customer portal.

  • Studio hire: you can change a studio booking up to 24 hours before it starts through our customer portal.

  • Refunds: we don’t offer refunds on classes, courses or studio hire, except in exceptional circumstances at our discretion. We’re happy for you to reschedule as above.

  • If we cancel: if we have to cancel a class, course session, event or hire (for example due to teacher illness or circumstances beyond our control), we’ll let you know as soon as we can and offer a credit, an alternative date or a full refund for that session.

  • We may occasionally need to change a teacher, time or studio. We’ll tell you about any significant change in advance.

3. Drop-in classes

  • Drop-in classes are booked and paid for individually. Each class stands on its own, so you can join at any time, subject to space and the level guidance on our website.

  • Please arrive on time. For safety, a teacher may ask you not to join a class if you arrive after the warm-up.

4. Adult beginner courses

  • Beginner courses run for 5 consecutive weeks. The full course price is shown on our website.

  • Week 1 of each course can be booked as a one-off taster at the drop-in price. To continue, you’ll need to book and pay for the remaining 4 weeks before week 2.

  • Courses can’t be joined after week 1. If you can’t make every week, please contact us before booking.

  • Missed sessions can’t be refunded or carried over, unless we agree otherwise.

  • Students who complete the full course are offered their first Level 1 class free. The offer is for one class, must be used within 4 weeks of the course ending, and is sent by email.

5. Children’s IDTA graded classes

  • To join, please contact us first so we can recommend the right class and grade.

  • New students can attend their first 3 weeks on a pay-as-you-go basis. After that, classes are invoiced each half term, in line with Sheffield school terms, and invoices are payable within 30 days.

  • If your child would like to leave graded classes, please give us one half term’s notice in writing. Fees for the current half term aren’t refundable if your child leaves part way through it.

  • International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) exam entry is optional and subject to our teachers’ recommendation. Exam fees are payable separately and aren’t refundable once the entry has been submitted.

  • A uniform is required for graded classes and exams; we’ll send details when you book a place.

6. Offers

  • First class free: for new customers only, on one adult or children’s drop-in class. It doesn’t apply to beginner courses, graded classes, private lessons, parties or studio hire, and is limited to one per person.

7. Private lessons and dance parties

  • Private lessons and dance parties are arranged by contacting us. Prices are confirmed when you book.

  • Dance parties: a £50 deposit secures your booking, and the balance is due 30 days before the party.

  • Cancellations: if you cancel a party or private lesson with less than 14 days’ notice, it isn’t refundable. If you cancel with 14 days’ notice or more, we’ll refund what you’ve paid, less the £50 party deposit, which is non-refundable.

  • Where we travel to your venue, a travel charge may apply, and you’re responsible for providing a safe, suitable space.

  • Hen dos: drinks may be brought and enjoyed in our waiting area, but not in the studios.

8. Studio hire

  • Online studio hire prices are for personal use only, such as practice and rehearsal. Commercial use (including running your own classes, shoots, productions or events) must be agreed with us in advance and is charged at our commercial rates.

  • Prices are per studio and don’t change with the number of people.

  • Hirers are responsible for their group’s behaviour, safety and supervision, including any children, and for holding their own insurance where they run activities for others.

  • Please leave the studio clean and tidy, use clean footwear, and don’t bring food or drinks other than water into the studios.

  • Hirers are responsible for any damage caused during their hire.

  • Please stick to your booked times; overruns may be charged.

9. Health, safety and your wellbeing

  • Dance is a physical activity. Please tell us about any medical conditions, injuries or pregnancy before you take part, and let your teacher know at the start of class.

  • Follow your teacher’s instructions, work within your own limits and stop if you feel unwell.

  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or anything else that can’t be limited by law. Otherwise, we’re not responsible for loss or damage to personal belongings.

  • Our studios are on the first floor with no lift. Please contact us about any access needs before booking.

10. Children and safeguarding

  • Children must be dropped off and collected on time by a parent, carer or an adult they’ve authorised.

  • Parents of children aged 3–5 may stay until their child settles. For older children, we ask parents not to stay in the studio, but they’re welcome to watch briefly through the door window.

  • All our teachers working with children are DBS-checked. Our safeguarding policy is available on request.

11. Behaviour

We want Hype to be a warm, welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. We may ask anyone whose behaviour is unsafe, abusive or disruptive to leave, without a refund.

12. Photography and filming

We sometimes take photos and video in classes and at events for our website, social media and publicity, only with your (or a parent or carer’s) permission. Please don’t film or photograph other students without their permission. See our privacy policy for more.

13. Lost property

Items left behind go in our lost property box in reception; valuables are kept in our locked office. Unclaimed items are donated to charity after 4 weeks.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on our website when you book applies to that booking.

15. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
