Beginner course student

We run a weekly drop-in Beginner Modern Jazz Dance class in Sheffield here at our dance studios.

This is a class covering some essentials of modern jazz dance technique. It’s suitable for complete beginners to the style, anyone who’s always wanted to try modern jazz and wants to know more, as well as for those who already know the style but want to refresh their technique. The class will allow students the time to focus on mastering the technique, with suitable guidance and support.

Alongside learning jazz dance technique suitable for beginners, you will also have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. Taking a dance class will also improve your fitness, conditioning, flexibility, strength, balance, posture, memory, co-ordination, mental wellbeing and so much more..!

The class is taught by Paulina Chochulska, with her fun and engaging approach. Paulina studied at Polish National Ballet School for 11 years before moving to England, and we are positive that you will enjoy her sessions, and definitely learn something new!

This drop-in class must be booked and paid for in advance and is suitable for ages 17 – 60+ years, of any experience. You do not need any previous dance experience to take part in this beginner ballet dance course.

Other modern jazz dance classes

As well as this Beginner modern jazz dance class in Sheffield we also run a level 2/3 drop-in modern jazz dance class in Sheffield for more experienced dancers. This class for adults is on Wednesday evenings from 18:00 – 19:00 and costs £7.50 / £6.50 NUS and must be booked and paid for in advance.

For children and young people we run dance classes for ages 5 upwards. These classes are on Saturdays and are International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) syllabus based classes.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear for class / should I bring anything with me?

We don’t have a dress code for our adult classes so you can wear something appropriate that you feel comfortable in. For modern jazz dance, most people wear leggings / joggers or shorts and a vest top or tee, and for your feet, jazz shoes or barefoot will be fine.

We suggest bringing a water bottle along to class – you can refill it here too.

Is there anywhere to park / how do I get there?

What do I do when I get there?

When you arrive press the buzzer (to the left of the black doors) and let us know what you are here for. Push the door when you hear the buzzing sound, then head inside and up to the waiting area, which is on the left at the top on the stairs.

If you need to change clothes, please use the designated changing space (just through the waiting area). Please bring CLEAN footwear for the studio, especially during autumn / winter when it is often muddy outside.

Once you are ready, take a seat in the waiting area until your dance tutor comes to get you for your class. Please take your belongings with you into the studio, where there are hooks to hang bags and coats on.

Can I change my booking or get a refund?

You can amend your booking up to 2 hours in advance of the class by heading to our customer portal. If you haven’t used the portal before, simply click on the “forgot password” link, enter the email address you used to book, and follow the instructions.

We don’t offer refunds on dance classes (other than in exceptional circumstances), as you’ll already have seen in our terms and conditions! We’re happy for you to reschedule your booking as outlined above though.!
