Hype Dance Company in Sheffield are hosting BOP Jazz Dance Comes North on the weekend of 18th & 19th April, with workshops and lectures for dancers, teachers, choreographers and jazz dance enthusiasts. This is a unique chance to work with a great team of dance experts from Body of People, aka BOP the UK’s Premier Jazz Theatre Company.
We hope to have support from Arts Council England to make this happen and be able to offer this experience at a heavily subsidised rate (attend everything for just £50.00 or see individual prices below) and gain knowledge from the UK’s leading voice in Jazz Dance. Each masterclass will reflect, and references, the lineage of dance styles rooted in the jazz dance canon.
Explore and experience the rhythms and beats of African dance with Bafana Matea, the creative pulse of creative jazz repertoire with Dollie Henry MBE and high energy musical theatre with Omar F. Okai.
There will also be the opportunity to put questions to the team during the Q&A session on Saturday and the All Things Jazz discussion forum on Sunday. The weekend will conclude with a Jazz History lecture with Dollie Henry MBE and Paul Jenkins. Check out the line-up…
